badminton racket<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>In her hands the light <\/em>battledore<em> became a blur of speed, pummeling the shuttlecock with precise, stacatto strokes.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>8. <strong>eleemosynary<\/strong> &#8211;about alms or charity<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>While waiting for the light to change, the BMW driver gave the one-armed homeless man standing on the traffic island an <\/em>eleemosynary<em> Jack Chick tract.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>9. <strong>lich gate<\/strong> &#8212; small roofed gate to a churchyard<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>The pastor would stand at the <\/em>lich gate<em> at the end of the service to shake hands with his departing parishioners.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>10. <strong>scapegrace<\/strong> &#8212;
