{"id":2166,"date":"2019-09-06T16:05:22","date_gmt":"2019-09-06T23:05:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/educatedguesswork.com\/?p=2166"},"modified":"2019-10-30T13:32:20","modified_gmt":"2019-10-30T20:32:20","slug":"friday-vocabulary-70","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/educatedguesswork.com\/?p=2166","title":{"rendered":"Friday Vocabulary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>1. <strong>panentheism<\/strong> \u2014 belief that God and the universe interpenetrate and influence each other<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>In contradistinction to the identity of God with the universe described by pantheism, <\/em>panentheism<em> affirms a deity which exists within the universe but is not identical with it, yet which is not entirely separate from that universe as is the case with traditional theistic belief.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>2. <strong>nictitate<\/strong> \u2014 to wink or blink<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>Though most may think that the liar <\/em>nictitates<em> more frequently than the normal person, the subtler truth is that the liar blinks less often while telling the lie, and then achieves a faster than natural rate while speaking of trivial matters.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>3. <strong>sloper<\/strong> \u2014 basic tailoring pattern without allowance for different seams or styles, usually made for a specific individual<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>If you have your own <\/em>slopers<em> for basic garments, you can quickly determine where you&#8217;ll need to make allowances by comparing it with a standard pattern.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>4. <strong>mete<\/strong> \u2014 to apportion, to allot<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>If we had the eye of God could be <\/em>mete<em> condign punishment to every sinner?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>5. <strong>appoggiatura<\/strong> \u2014 grace-note prepended to essential tone of a melody<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>She shows off her range with an incessant barrage of runs and trills until one cannot begin to guess which note is <\/em>appoggiatura<em> and which the melody.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>6. <strong>anamnesis<\/strong> \u2014 remembrance of things past<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>Nostalgia is always one danger of <\/em>anamnesis<em>; regret is another.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>7. <strong>rhinorrhea<\/strong> \u2014 runny nose<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>With a runny nose you get a snot rag, whereas with <\/em>rhinorrhea<em> you get a mucus abatement device.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>8. <strong>parous<\/strong> \u2014 having given birth<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>The primary difference seen in the <\/em>parous<em> women in the study was a marked willingness to more readily take the drugs offered for pain.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"9\"><\/a><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>9. <strong>extravasate<\/strong> \u2014 to force out or to flow out from usual vessel or channel<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>His legs were blotched with blood <\/em>extravasated<em> into the muscles due to his severe scurvy.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>10. <strong>vertu<\/strong> (more commonly <strong>virtu<\/strong>) \u2014 taste for works of art or curios;
