will fare well beneath the cutting eyes and biting tongues of the gentlemen and women of the court.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>7. <strong>huggle<\/strong> \u2014 (<em>obsolete<\/em>) to hug<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>Just as a mother <\/em>huggles<em> her newborn to her breast, so did Dylan hold the mewling kitten in his arms.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>8. <strong>periphrastic<\/strong> \u2014 overly wordy, circumlocutory, characterized by use of many words for a single word or a shorter phrase<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>Though the document was boldly stamped across its face &#8216;Not A Bill&#8217;, I struggled in vain through the <\/em>periphrastic<em> prose to determine just what this seemingly official paper actually was.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>9. <strong>doxology<\/strong> \u2014 short formula of words in praise of God<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>Pieter was the loveliest, kindest man I ever met, and every word he uttered seemed to me a <\/em>doxology<em>, full of joy and never an ounce of rancor.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>10. <strong>bittern<\/strong> \u2014 wading bird related to, though smaller than, the heron<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>Suddenly the boom of a <\/em>bittern<em> seeking a mate startled me out of my twilight reverie on the dock.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1. barracoon \u2014 temporary holding place for prisoners, esp. slaves The king wished to drive the emigrants away from Port Cresson so that the barracoon could be reopened and his lucrative trade in human souls could recommence. &nbsp;
