beginning to exist or develop<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>Though some pundits have pointed to a <\/em>nascent<em> sense of interdependence among the world&#8217;s people, more likely we&#8217;ll just see more of the same.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>2. <strong>nescience<\/strong> &#8212; the state of not knowing<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>Conspiracy theories may derive as well from a human tendency to insist upon &#8220;yes\/no&#8221; answers; we feel great discontent in a perpetual state of  <\/em>nescience.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>3. <strong>epigenesis<\/strong> &#8212; the process by which genetic information, as modified by environment, is transformed into an organism&#8217;s substance and behaviors<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>Perhaps many mental illnesses have their <\/em>epigenesis<em> in the family life which surrounds the sufferers, to at least the same extent these selfsame sufferers are &#8216;hard-wired&#8217; for psychological problems.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>4. <strong>inbred<\/strong> &#8212; resulting from inbreeding<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>An <\/em>inbred<em> predisposition to hemophilia was the heritage of the crowned heads of Europe, with dire effects for the Romanovs.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>5. <strong>patent<\/strong> &#8212; obvious<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>The <\/em>patent<em> traits of character war sometimes with the latent aspects.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>6. <strong>penetrance<\/strong> &#8212; the frequency with which a given gene produces its effect<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>Mendel discovered genetic effects because of the striking <\/em>penetrance<em> of changes in the plants he studied.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>7. <strong>innate<\/strong> &#8212; part of the essential character of something, rather than learned<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>The extent to which violence, and especially the urge to war, is <\/em>innate<em> in human nature has been debated since the dawn of anthropology.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>8. <strong>inveterate<\/strong> &#8212; firmly entrenched through habit or long practice<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>He is known as an <\/em>inveterate<em> liar.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>9. <strong>ingrained<\/strong> &#8212; deep-rooted<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>She had an <\/em>ingrained<em> aversion to speaking the truth; unfortunately, she had no such compunction against speaking her mind.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>10. <strong>extrinsic<\/strong> &#8212; foreign; external<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>Advertising impinges upon most of its viewers, thus its effect may be seen as <\/em>extrinsic<em>, though prolonged exposure obviously produces internal effects on mind, and perhaps body.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1. nascent &#8212;
