commercial distribution point<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>Hong Kong&#8217;s status as a legal <\/em>entrep\u00f4t<em> permitted packaging and other processing of mainland goods transshipped through the growing commercial center.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>3. <strong>perdurance<\/strong> \u2014 persistence, duration, permanence<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>On the other hand, one can adapt the philosophy best known through the maxim of Heraclitus, denying any <\/em>perdurance<em> of things in space and (especially) time, a viewpoint that in its most extreme forms takes on a sort of Zen belief in only the existence of the &#8216;now&#8217;\u2014to the exclusion of all else that the perceiving mind may claim for the physical world.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>4. <strong>skirl<\/strong> \u2014 to shriek; long thin jaw<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>He also had a ludicrously noticeable <\/em>lantern jaw<em> which would have been more appropriate for a clown than an undertaker, which jaw he made even more noticeable by affecting a tuft of hair which I suppose he claimed for a goatee.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>7. <strong>monocable<\/strong> \u2014 aerial ropeway using single wire rope for both support and transit<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>Although the lower initial costs for <\/em>monocable<em> systems may seem enticing, the expenses for upkeep are much higher than for a similar bicable implementation.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>8. <strong>genuflect<\/strong> \u2014 to bend the knee in worship, to touch one knee to ground as sign of reverence<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>Now that Slocum has all the proxies in hand, you can be sure that each of us on the board will be forced to appear and <\/em>genuflect<em> before him to maintain our seats.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>9. <strong>fuddle<\/strong> \u2014 to confuse; to inebriate; to tipple, to go on a drinking spree<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>&#8220;I fear your boy Tom has <\/em>fuddled<em> his last, if&#8217;n he&#8217;s passed out in the open on this sair cold and freezing night.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>10. <strong>paroicous<\/strong> \u2014 [<em>botany<\/em>] having male and female reproductive organs next to or near each other<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>Many of these Iberian mosses are <\/em>paroicous<em>, and can be gathered in any stony region where even slight dampness is present.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Bonus Vocabulary<\/h4>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">(British slang)<\/p>\n<p><strong>on the lash<\/strong> \u2014 drinking socially, usu. to excess<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>I always regretted going out <\/em>on the lash<em> the next day, but that night\u2014as always\u2014it seemed like an excellent idea.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1. madding \u2014 frenzied, acting like a madman;
