\nWhere the romantics go to drown,
\nSomber as the Tuscan sun sets
\nSpeaking the ineffable noun
\nMy heart a hopeless wanderer
\nFleeing pregnant ghosts
\nSeeking in parti-colored silks
\nTo evade accusing hosts.
\nThe fear a promise unrealized,
\nThe events trivial and benign,
\nOppressed beneath the clearest skies,
\nThe punishment condign.<\/p>\n
As if words could salve the wound
\nOf silence purpos\u2019d or rash.
\nInstead, I light a pyre of dream and desire,
\nBurn my cigarette heart to ash.
\nThe foetus in the suicide\u2019s womb
\nAs the heartsick cold closes in \u2013
\nRegrets at graveside or crepuscular shore,
\nThe distance remains infinite.
\nSo I\u2019m thinking (though thoughts cannot help)
\nOf life beneath a darkening sky,
\nOf remains on a beach where once I wept,
