What <\/em>all my eye and Betty Martin<em>! And you believed him!?! Saints preserve us!&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>8. <strong>stap me vitals<\/strong> (also <strong>stap my vitals<\/strong>, or in abbreviated form as <strong>stap me<\/strong>) \u2014 [<em>slang<\/em>] exclamation of anger or surprise<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>&#8220;Well, <\/em>stap me vitals<em> if you don&#8217;t show up when you&#8217;re least wanted, Teddy!&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>9. <strong>on the tapis<\/strong> (also <strong>upon the tapis<\/strong>) \u2014 [<em>idiom<\/em>] under consideration, up for discussion<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>The last thing <\/em>on the tapis<em> was the same old nonsense about the Founder&#8217;s Fountain, only under a new guise and disguised as a patriotic means of showing our support for the troops.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>10. <strong>brass neck<\/strong> \u2014 [<em>UK idiom<\/em>] shamelessness, gall; person with this quality<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>I don&#8217;t mind being told that AI will provide cost savings and more efficiency, just don&#8217;t have the <\/em>brass neck<em> to tell me that those benefits are for the customer, rather than for the penny-pinching executives in their glass-walled offices.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Bonus Vocabulary<\/h4>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">(military slang, originally from ANZAC troops)<\/p>\n<p><strong>chocolate soldier<\/strong> \u2014 soldier who never sees combat; one unwilling to fight<\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\"><em>He was too yellow even for the quartermaster corps, too much a <\/em>chocolate soldier<em> to face up even to harsh words or forms in triplicate.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1. pace \u2014 [Latin] &#8220;in peace&#8221;, with no offense intended to, with apologies to Certainly we can all be grateful to Max Brod (pace Kafka&#8217;s own wishes in the matter) that he did not cast these writings into the fire. &nbsp; 2.
